Francesca C,

Program Design

Jessica lights up a room (or zoom) with her warmth and excitement. I felt like I always had someone to go to when I had a question: whether that be navigating a job platform or weighing my options between possible internship opportunities. Jessica does a great job of helping everyone feel included and important and knows the importance of getting to know each of us on a personal level. Jessica made sure the transition from in-person to online program was as seamless as possible- and when issues arose, she was always quick to fix the problem and continue with a smile on her face. Jessica connects with us interns and makes sure everything she teaches is new, relevant, and important for us.

Career Coaching

Excellent… Jessica has a gift for coaching people and helps people prepare for interviews and job opportunities. Overall she has a great understanding of the foundation of good communication. She has the ability to concise your feelings, thoughts, and put them into a professional language. Excellent when it comes to resume review, excellent with interview preparation. If it wasn't for Jessica, I do not think I would be confident enough in an interview.

Career Coaching

Jessica explains things very clearly and is a great teacher when breaking down the fundamentals and concepts of job etiquette. She showed me why certain things need to be highlighted first on my resume and what I need to say at an interview to make me more appealing to the company. Jessica is very resourceful, good at researching, and follows up with you to see how you are progressing. She will definitely not disappoint you on your career journey.

Speaking Engagements

I am so lucky to have attended two panels which featured Jessica. She is a dynamic and passionate speaker; her enthusiasm is instantly clear, and she can easily engage an audience. She has expertly shared her knowledge of ethically and intentionally engaging in diverse communities to audiences of all experience levels. Her leadership in focus groups is beyond compare. I have always felt so warmly welcomed under Jessica’s leadership and can confidently say that anyone who works with her is immeasurably fortunate.

Program Design

I've known Jessica since 2004 and she is as nice as she is thorough. Her attention to detail, creativity, and willingness to serve were characteristics that made her an asset when we served on the Youth and Young Adult committee together at our local church. I was always amazed by the events/conferences she coordinated. She is such a hard worker and always puts her best foot forward. I love working with her!

Program Design

Jessica is one of the most dedicated, vivacious, and diligent colleagues I have had the pleasure to work. As one of the few Black women in education, Jessica was a beacon of light and positive energy for the hundreds of BIPOC students who flocked to her with questions surrounding resumes, internships, college admissions, and much more. Moreover, she became a steadfast supporter for other teachers of color in the building who, like myself, saw little in the way of support. Advocating for the interests of students and teachers alike, Jessica helped me to construct and lead two important student-experiences that have positively impacted the lives of over 20 kids.

WPY Summer Internship Program

Service

Leading the WPY Summer Internship Program as a major coordinator, Jessica aided in the creation, construction, and implementation of the new “Windows and Mirrors at WHS” internship program. This initiative sought to create an environment that is more welcoming, inclusive and reflective of the cultural, linguistic and racial backgrounds of our students and families - namely by representing more POC in the halls and classrooms of WHS. Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic, Jessica made sure that my needs as a supervisor and those of my interns were regularly met by hosting informational meetings, teaching interns how to log their hourly hours, and meeting with me one on one to ensure the program was moving smoothly from start to finish. At the end of the summer, all five interns had planned and proposed pieces around the theme of intersectionality that not only better represented the school, but called upon administrators to create real change to the school’s socio cultural environment. Absolutely none of this progress would have been made possible without Jessica’s enduring support and belief in this program and its students.

Moving into the school year, I had the continued privilege of co-teaching the first “Teaching for Social Justice” course with Jessica. In this work, Jessica was as dedicated to the class offline by coordinating guest speakers, co-planning lessons with me, and bringing interesting readings to the forefront of the class. However, while Jessica’s work with me to coordinate the class was irreplaceable, her impact on students is insurmountable and will not soon be forgotten.
